As a birth doula and lactation educator I have faith in a woman's inner knowledge, and I believe in supporting a mother on whatever path she decides to choose. I have training with both Doulas of North America (DONA) and the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) and I am a current member of the Colorado Doula Association (CDA).
It would be my privilege to be a part of your family's birth experience. Every family has different needs and desires during their pregnancy and labor. The goal of the doula is to enhance and support the family's participation in the birth process and to help the woman achieve a safe and satisfying birth. I will work with you to define what my potential role can be.
I also offer personal guidance, education, and support to families at the beginning and throughout the duration of their breastfeeding relationship. Information at the right time can make the difference between continuing to breastfeed and deciding to stop. Both babies and mothers need to learn new skills in the early days and weeks of breastfeeding and sometimes challenges can occur. Many families have found that it can be very helpful to prepare for their breastfeeding relationship as they would prepare for the birth of their baby, by learning various techniques and becoming aware of potential challenges.
Some of my additional birth related interests include being an active volunteer for Bright Beginnings, a state funded home visit program connecting prenatal and new families with available community resources, contributing to the wonderful effort of the growing community of Bellies, Birth, and Babies, and being a recent donor for the Mother's Milk Bank of Denver. When I am not working with new families I am hand-creating natural body and bath products and marketing for my shared company, Eriu Earth Soaps.
My personal birthing experience includes a hospital birth with a doula in assistance and the use of Hypnobirthing relaxation techniques. My son had a week long stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a very difficult start with breastfeeding. We know first hand the benefit of the wonderful birth and postpartum resourses that are available in our community.
Having a comfortable and trusting relationship with your doula is so important. Please contact me if you are interested in any additional information. Have a wonderful birthing year!
