I strongly believe that women have the right to make informed choices about their birthing. I strive to make education about birth a positive process. In a time when birth has become a medical event, controlled by hospital policies and insurance companies, I hope to create and hold a sacred space in which a woman may give birth and experience this most profound rite of passage.
I believe that through comprehensive education and self-discovery, women and their families will make healthy, satisfying choices about their births. I also respect that one woman’s hopes for her birth may be very different from another’s. No amount of textbook techniques or obstetrical knowledge will guarantee that any mother will have a textbook birth, therefore it is important to help a family build a foundation of strength to draw from during their birthing process, as well as be prepared for unexpected outcomes. I try to meet each expectant family where they are. I embrace cultural differences, and I enjoy supporting families with both traditional and alternative family structures.
I have experience with a multitude of birth settings, including home birth, hospital birth, cesarean section, birth of multiples, breech birth, and many different birthing techniques. I’ve been so fortunate to witness many births with no interventions. I’ve also assisted at births where women received epidurals in awareness, or had very fulfilling and supported cesarean births. Each birth I’ve witnessed is unique, and I’m honored to be present at that perfect moment, and to help families in their preparation for a new beginning.
