“It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.”
--Hippocrates
OUR PHILOSOPHY
At Mindful Pediatrics, I have created a practice that promotes the highest quality of care in a supportive and nurturing environment. I practice evidence-based western medicine with a holistic approach. I believe that each child is unique and has to be understood from a biological, psychological, spiritual and social perspective. Using my knowledge of general Pediatrics, nutrition, mindfulness, and holistic medicine, I guide my patients and their families in both well care and illness. From nutrition to exercise, mind-body, homeopathy, herbs and pharmaceutical drugs, I use the most appropriate and mildest combination to achieve the best outcome. Taking the time to gain this greater understanding, I believe is the key to an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
OUR PEOPLE
Roy Steinbock, M.D. F.A.A.P
I am a board certified Pediatrician and have been practicing Pediatrics since 1999. Born in Israel, I moved to Los Angeles at the age of four. My degrees include a BA with honors from UC Berkeley and a doctorate in medicine with honors from the University of Tel Aviv, Sackler School of Medicine. I completed a Pediatric Residency, at the Schneider’s Children Hospital in New York. Since residency I have worked as a Pediatric inpatient doctor, in a newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit, and in several Pediatric emergency rooms including Rose Medical Center and North Suburban hospital. Most recently I worked in primary care at Partners in Pediatrics, a holistic general Pediatric group in Denver.
MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness is the art of living. It is a systematic approach to attaining harmony and peace within ourselves and within the world we live. It is a simple practice that allows one to pay attention to the present moment and without judgment to see things for what they are.
Parenting is a wake up call. It is an opportunity to realize our greatest potential as human beings. Mindful parenting makes it possible to know ourselves and our children more deeply than we could imagine. In mindful parenting one uses awareness of the present moment to guide parental decisions. By giving attention to our family’s everyday challenges and rewards we can nurture and fully experience each moment.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy playing and building guitars, hiking, snowboarding, yoga, meditation and most of all, spending time with my family. It is my own nutritional, medical, spiritual and emotional lifestyle choices that complement my Pediatric practice, and continue to influence my approach as a physician and parent.
OUR FOCUS:
Nutrition
What we put into our bodies has a tremendous impact on our wellbeing. At Mindful Pediatrics I focus on a child’s nutrition for maintaining wellness and preventing illness. I am certified as an integrative nutrition practitioner and use my expertise as an integral part of my diagnostic and treatment process. I also offer advice in prenatal nutrition and counseling.
Chronic Illness and Diagnostic Dilemmas:
Understanding and treating complicated illness can be very challenging. I believe we must see both “the trees and the forest” to find the cause of an unusual illness. I have an unwavering determination and commitment to solving your child’s problems. Each family and child requires a personalized approach.
OTHER AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Behavioral Issues
Sleep Guidance
Parenting Concerns
Allergies/Asthma
Food allergies and sensitivities
ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder)
Anxiety
Chronic Pain
Irritable Bowel Disease
Recurrent illness and infections
OUR COMMITMENT:
At Mindful Pediatrics, visits last as long as they need to. To get to know each other on a deeper and more meaningful level a typical well visit may last an hour or more. Only one patient is scheduled at a time, and the number of families in the practice is limited to ensure virtually no wait times and excellent availability. Phone consultations are also available for your convenience. The entire experience is designed to honor and respect the needs of the child and the family.
“Wellness is our ability to respond to challenges and stressors effectively, and return to a state of balance. I focus on the root cause of a problem, and aim to support my patient’s natural resources for healing”
